With their second round pick this afternoon, the A’s took USC left-handed pitcher Mason Edwards, the 47th pick in the 2026 MLB Draft:
The organization is adding a second college prospect this afternoon, another that looks like he could move through the system rather quickly. The lefty (who turns 21 on Tuesday) has quality control of his three-pitch ***** nal, which features a low-90’s fastball, a “bender” than acts in a slurvy motion, and a quality third off-speed pitch that has plenty of fade on it. None of them alone are a truly elite pitch but he does a great job in combining them to change batter’s eye level and has deception in his delivery. In his final year at USC he posted a 2.07 ERA in 17 starts, with 169 strikeouts in just 95 2/3 innings.

Edwards is a Los Angeles area native who attended Palisades High School, earning back-to-back league pitcher of the year honors as well as consecutive first-team all-city nods in 2022 and 2023. After heading just a stone’s throw away to Southern Cal for college, the left-hander served as a swingman type for the Trojans, amassing just over 70 innings combined. A strong fall showing has been followed up by a solid spring leading the weekend rotation, which has kept the scouting industry’s interest piqued.
