After the 2026 World Cup, Mexico is looking to capitalize on the momentum of the biggest event in football to remain a leader in hosting international events. President Claudia Sheinbaum confirmed that the government will evaluate the economic and tourism impact of the recent World Cup before deciding whether to support the bid for the 2029 FIFA Club World Cup, a proposal formally promoted by the Mexican Football Federation.
Thanks to the upgrades implemented for 2026, the country now has top-tier infrastructure that meets FIFA's strict requirements, including VAR technology, connectivity, and hotel capacity. The preselected venues are:
Mexico City Stadium (Azteca): With a capacity of more than 80,000 spectators, it is shaping up as the clear favorite to host the grand final.
BBVA Stadium (Monterrey) and Akron Stadium (Guadalajara): Both state-of-the-art venues have secured their place following their proven operational experience during the World Cup.
Universitario Stadium (Monterrey) and Olímpico Universitario (Mexico City): They are emerging as viable alternatives, although they would require minor operational adjustments.
