Former Miami center Ernest Udeh Jr., who went undrafted last week, has signed a two-way contract with the Cleveland Cavaliers, the team announced on Wednesday.
Udeh was an All-ACC Defensive Team selection last season, averaging 6.7 points, 9.2 rebounds, 1.4 blocks and one steal while shooting 72.7% from the field. He led the country in defensive rebounding rate and ranked second in the conference in total rebounds (305).
The 6-foot-11 Udeh registered six double-doubles last season with the Hurricanes, including a 15-point, 10-rebound performance on Feb. 10 in a win over North Carolina. He was one of 10 players in the ACC to register at least six double-doubles.
Udeh was highly touted entering the draft because of his motor, rebounding and ability to protect the rim at a high level. He projects to be a rotation player at the next level who can impact games off the bench with his hustle and energy.
The 22-year-old will split his time next season between the NBA and the Cleveland Charge in the G League. He is eligible to play up to 50 games in the NBA and will earn $678,882, which is 50% of the minimum salary for a player with zero years of service.
