Serena Williams is making a highly anticipated return to Wimbledon this year. The seven-time Wimbledon singles champion received a wild card into the main draw and will also partner with sister Venus Williams in women's doubles.
The last time Serena took the court, she fell to Ajla Tomljanović in the third round of the 2022 US Open. Williams, 44, retired shortly thereafter as the all-time leader in women's Grand Slam ***** les (23).
So, all eyes are on Williams at the All England Club. That includes Novak Djokovic, who's seeking his 25th Grand Slam win. Djokovic explained to reporters Saturday how much an inspiration Williams has been to him and countless others.
"First and foremost, what she's doing is inspirational and it's epic. That's what I told her," Djokovic said, per ESPN. "I always admired her career, her journey, her story. Of course, Venus' as well.
"For her to come back after years of being absent from the tour, two children later, and to give so much effort to, not just for her own satisfaction or coming back on the tour, but also to give all of us a pleasure of seeing her back on the court is remarkable."
