The Denver Broncos kicked off a three-day mandatory minicamp on Tuesday and, for the first time this spring, media members saw quarterback Bo Nix (ankle) participating in practice.
Nix threw during individual drills, but did not participate in team drills. He had "a nifty bullet over the middle" to wide receiver Courtland Sutton, according to the Denver Gazette's Chris Tomasson. Nix was "very limited," according to KUSA-TV's Mike Klis.
Denver previously held six practices during organized team activities (OTAs) over the last two weeks. Broncos coach Sean Payton said Nix did pre-practice throwing before the first week, and he said the QB got walk-through and two-minute reps during the second week of OTAs. Nix did not practice in the two sessions that media members attended, though.
This week, Nix was out on the field with his teammates on Tuesday, just as Payton previously indicated he would be, albeit in a limited capacity.
Nix, 26, broke his ankle during a divisional-round playoff win over the Buffalo Bills in January. The quarterback was originally projected to be back to full speed in time for OTAs, but that changed after Nix underwent a clean-up surgery in April. Nix is now back on the field, and he is expected to be on track to be completely recovered for training camp, which begins in late July.
