The ongoing friction between President Donald Trump and pop superstar Taylor Swift reached a fresh flashpoint on social media after the campaign's official TikTok account targeted the singer in a post that was later muted.
The TeamTrump account, which commands roughly 14 million followers, posted a video celebrating August, featuring Trump and First Lady Melania Trump watching fireworks.
The post originally used Swift's 2020 track "August" as its background music, accompanied by a caption directly taunting the pop icon, who married Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce in July.
The TikTok video included text overlaid across the screen stating, "Mood because it's August and Donald Trump is your president." The accompanying caption took a direct jab at the singer, reading: "I'm sure Taylor Swift is going to be super excited we used her song! #taylorswift #MAGA #august ."
However, by Friday evening, users across the United States noticed that the track had been scrubbed from the clip. In place of the song, TikTok displayed a standard copyright notification stating, "The copyright owner hasn't made this sound available in your country."
