If you're excited for Nico Iamaleava's 2026 season, you're not alone. Ahead of Iamaleava and the UCLA Bruins season debut on Saturday, college football ****** yst Todd McShay appeared on the Bill Simmons Podcast and gushed about UCLA's signal caller.
The former five-star recruit is flying a bit under the radar after a 2025 season where the Bruins offense struggled and the team finished 3-9 as a whole. Even amidst the struggles for the team, Iamaleava flashed moments of brilliance.
"I don't think people nationally have a clue how good Nico is," McShay said. "He's got a toughness about him that I didn't expect. He's got an ability to bounce-back from mistakes. This guy loves ball, you can't hide that on tape."
Even with those intangibles, it's the combination of Iamaleava's size and speed for the quarterback position. That skillset not only makes him an exciting college quarterback, it makes him a potential option at the NFL level.
"A 6'5" gazelle when he takes off to run. Then you watch the ability to, at 6'5", make guys miss in small ****** es," McShay said of the UCLA quarterback. "There's nothing he can't do. Now his deep ball accuracy was atrocious at Tennessee. I'm interested to see this year if he can improve that area."

The summer of CJ Carr continues .
The Notre Dame quarterback participated in the Manning Passing Academy over this weekend and the consensus seemed to be that he had an outstanding performance.
The 2026 Manning Passing Academy was billed as a who's-who of quarterbacks in the country. Carr would be going up against the likes of Archie Manning (Texas ), Julian Sayin (Ohio State ) and a host of others for the attention of scouts and ***** ysts. One of those ***** ysts, NFL Draft expert Todd McShay, was extremely impressed by Carr's performance over the weekend.
When McShay was asked on his show, "The McShay Show" who the MVP was, he did not hesitate with his answer. "CJ Carr . Notre Dame. Not even close." He raved about Carr's throwing session, citing not just velocity but how he seemed to be performing at a different level than even the other Heisman candidates he was competing with.
Of course, Manning Passing Academy MVP trophies do not matter in the Gug. It's National Championship trophies that do. Notre Dame is coming into the upcoming season with high expectations and it will be Carr's performance during then that will ultimately be remembered in South Bend.

In triple digit heat indexes… we run the triple option.
Notre Dame fans know that we have something special with CJ carr at quarterback for the Irish. He's a talent the Irish haven't had since Jimmy Clausen and Irish fans haven't had this much faith in a quarterback since Brady Quinn. According to fanDuel Sportsbook, Carr is the favorite to win the Heisman on a team that has the second best odds to win the national championship.
And yet… we kept seeing rating and rankings and draft predictions over the past two months that mostly have CJ running somewhere between 4th and 6th in terms of the best QB in college. But then the Manning Passing Academy had their thing with all of the best quarterbacks in the country showing up, and it is Carr who is being hailed as the top dog by a number of different outlets.
One of those outlets is Todd McShay, and he put CJ up on the highest of pedastals.
This is a fun little graphic that shows what everyone already knows… Nike's dominance in outfitting CFB (as Nike or Jordan). Still… Adidas is making some headway while under Armour remains small. While I understand Irish fans wanting to move to Nike, I do like the different look Under Armour gives with its fan clothing. All of Nike's stuff is very "boilerplate" meaning that it's the same exact stuff for each of its schools. Under Armour makes Notre Dame gear look and feel unique, and the clothes are better quality than Nike – just not the shoes.

Ty Simpson hit with Brock Purdy comparison before 2026 NFL Draft from Todd McShay

With the 2026 NFL Draft rapidly approaching, one of the biggest questions in the first round centers on Ty Simpson, the quarterback from Alabama who enters the draft with just 15 games on his collegiate resume.
Some, like ESPN's Dan Orlovsky, believe Simpson has the potential to be the best overall player in this year's class, a certified franchise quarterback who should be taken over Fernando Mendoza due to his ceiling. But for others? Well, they cite Simpson's inexperience, lack of prototypical size, and la
