Former UFC ***** le challenger Anthony Smith was arrested in July and faces multiple felony charges. Earlier this month he entered a not-guilty plea to the allegations.
"Lionheart" was arrested in Nebraska following an incident with his wife. He is accused of terrostic threats, two counts of false imprisonment and attempt of a class 1/1A/1B/1C/1D felony. He's been ordered to appear in court for a status hearing on Sept. 21. He's currently out on $45,000 bail.
On Sunday, Smith broke his silence following the arrest and spoke out in a social media post.
"Happy to be home with my household full of "whys". I'll be able to tell my story someday soon. Until then…you guys just keep making it up as you go," he wrote on Instagram alongside a family photo. "Character is revealed in chaos."
Days after the July arrest, the Sarpy County District Attorney's Office released a statement detailing the accusations against Smith.

"It is alleged that on July 26, 2026, the defendant was involved in an altercation with his wife at a bar in Gretna, Neb., during which he reportedly threatened to kill her if she did not get into his vehicle and go home with him," the statement read. "He is further accused of grabbing and pushing her inside the vehicle.
"At one point, during the drive, she was able to exit the vehicle. The defendant allegedly continued making threats, demanding that she get back inside the vehicle. After arriving home, she again exited the vehicle. Investigators allege that the defendant attempted multiple times to use the vehicle to strike her. The defendant's wife was able to get out of the way and avoid any physical harm."

Anthony Smith has been released from Sarpy County Jail in Nebraska.
The former UFC light heavyweight ****** le challenger, who later transitioned to the role of ****** yst for UFC broadcasts, was arrested last Monday night (July 27, 2026) on felony charges of Attempted First Degree Domestic ****** ault, Terroristic Threats, and First Degree False Imprisonment.
Smith appeared before the judge on Wednesday morning and released on $500,000 bond.
That's according to a report from MMA Fighting, though Smith's arrest affidavit remains sealed. All we know at this stage is that "Lionheart" is facing serious allegations and will return to court at some point in the near future. Neither Smith nor UFC have issued a statement at the time of this writing.
Smith, who turned 38 just a few days back, retired from UFC in early 2025 but returned to action for Jorge Masvidal's Gamebred Bareknuckle MMA in April, securing a submission victory over fellow UFC export Chase Sherman. If convicted, Smith (39-22) could be facing up to 20 years in prison.
