NEW YORK/LONDON, Aug 6 (Reuters) - The U.S. dollar rose against the **** anese yen on Thursday, helped by safe-haven positioning from investors awaiting details on a proposed deal to end the Iran conflict and ahead of the monthly U.S. jobs report.
The dollar has been clawing back some recent intervention-driven losses that had pushed it to a 13-week low against the yen following joint action by **** anese and U.S. Treasury authorities to prop up the currency.
The dollar was last up 0.41% against the yen at 158.41, on track for its third straight session of gains after weakening to as low as 155.20 on Monday, its lowest level since early May.
"When you strengthen the yen, you by definition weaken the dollar and that's part of what happened in the first part of the week since Friday," said John Velis, FX and macro strategist at BNY.

NEW YORK/LONDON, July 17 (Reuters) - Share indexes tumbled around the world on Friday, as heavyweight chip stocks plunged for a third consecutive day as investors reduced bets on artificial intelligence, with China's Moonshot releasing a large AI system.
Meanwhile oil prices rose as the United States and Iran expanded their attacks to hit key infrastructure. The United States struck bridges and an airport in Iran, and Tehran responded by hitting a power and desalination plant in Kuwait.
In the contested Strait of Hormuz, where the renewed conflict has again cut off global energy supplies, U.S. Marines boarded a tanker, and another ship was reported to have been hit by a projectile.
In its third straight day of losses, the Philadelphia semiconductor index dipped to a level 23.5% below its most recent record closing high, reached on June 22. It was last down more than 2% on the day.

NEW YORK/LONDON, July 15 (Reuters) - The dollar slipped against major currencies on Wednesday after softer-than-expected U.S. producer prices reinforced signs of easing inflation, bolstering the view that the Federal Reserve can remain patient on interest rates even as investors weighed renewed strikes on Iran.
The Producer Price Index for final demand dropped 0.3% in June after a downwardly revised 0.6% increase in May, the Bureau of Labor Statistics said on Wednesday. Economists polled by Reuters had forecast the PPI unchanged after a previously reported 1.1% advance in May.
The dollar was flat against the yen at 162.19 yen. The euro steadied at $1.1433, while sterling rose 0.44% to $1.3447.
The U.S. dollar index, which tracks the currency against six major peers, softened 0.09% to 100.79. It fell 0.4% in the previous session, its biggest decline in nearly two weeks, after touching its highest level since July 2.
