In the cold chain world, every box of frozen food that lands on a doorstep carries a cost decision made days earlier. One example: five pounds of dry ice, or 15? Undershoot and the product arrives thawed. Overshoot and the brand pays to move weight it never needed.
That calculation, repeated across millions of orders, is the business Grip built. The Miami-based cold chain fulfillment company is now handing its national operation to a 40-year veteran of frozen and refrigerated distribution.
Grip said Tuesday that John Hummel will join as president of Grip Fulfillment, leading the company's national fulfillment operations. For the e-commerce brands that rely on Grip to move pet food, prepared meals and grocery orders, the hire brings proven experience. It's a high-stakes industry: a shipping decision that misses by either too few pounds of refrigerant or a single day in transit eats margin or may even destroy the product.
Hummel served as president of Burris Logistics' Custom Distribution division, where he oversaw five frozen and refrigerated distribution centers and eight direct-to-consumer fulfillment facilities. Earlier he was president of United Natural Foods Inc.'s Central/Southeast Region, running eight distribution centers with more than $6 billion in annual sales. Before that he led operations for 31 distribution centers at Reinhart Foodservice as the company grew from $2 billion to $7 billion.
"I've known Juan since his ButcherBox days, and I've followed Grip's journey ever since," Hummel said. "Joining the team to lead its fulfillment operation is an incredible opportunity."

Aftermath Silver Ltd (TSX-V:AAG, OTCQX:AAGFF, FRA:FLM1) announced that it has started drilling at the eastern edge of its Berenguela project in Peru to test for high-grade copper mineralization beyond the current mineral resource estimate, while also launching a drill program at its Challacollo silver-gold project in northern Chile.
The company said the Berenguela program will initially include up to 1,000 metres of core drilling targeting an eastern copper zone, following previous drill results that intersected high-grade copper and silver mineralization. The program may be expanded depending on results.
Shares of Aftermath gained 6.2% in Toronto on Wednesday morning.
Aftermath Silver CEO Ralph Rushton said the company is investigating the potential for additional high-grade copper mineralization outside the current resource area after encouraging drilling results from 2024 and 2025.
"Our previous drilling in 2024/2025 on the eastern margins of the MRE was extremely positive and with the copper spot price close to its all-time high I look forward to reporting on the results of the drilling later this year," Rushton said in a statement.

The Nasdaq 100 has shown itself to be a resilient index in the early part of Tuesday trading, as we have bounced from that crucial 28,500 level. This is a market that I think continues to be very noisy, but it looks like it is trying to defend the overall consolidation area. The 30,000 level above has been an area of significant resistance, and now it looks like we are just trying to reenter that area that we had spent so much time in over the last several months. It is earnings season, so that will have its influence as well.
The Dow Jones 30 rallied initially during the trading session on Tuesday, but it looks like it is just going to struggle to hang onto those gains from what we have seen so far. That being said, it is still in a strong uptrend and has been for quite some time, so it is a bit sluggish, but I would not necessarily look at this and think most traders would see a trend change.
This is a market that is more likely than not going to continue to pay attention to interest rates around the world, and this is a market that also has been at a nice 45-degree angle to the upside as far as the trajectory of the trend is concerned. The 50-day EMA is at 51,416 and rising, and has acted a bit like a trend line, so it looks like it is still supported.
The S&P 500 is bouncing from a trend line of the ascending triangle that it has been trying to form. So, with that being said, the market looks very much like a market that is coiling up, and if it is going to continue to see this coil action, one would anticipate that perhaps it is a market that will eventually resolve.
As it is in an ascending triangle, a lot of traders may be looking for a bit of upward pressure. We will just have to wait and see. But the 7,500 level continues to be a little bit of short-term resistance. Breaking above there would lead to more confidence for me, at least, that this market could rally. To the downside, the 50-day EMA offering support, I think, is something worth watching.
