Ashton Daniels left Florida State football's season-opening win over New Mexico State with positives under his belt, but plenty of room for improvement ahead of a Labor Day clash with No. 19 SMU.
He finished the night 17-of-27, with 202 passing yards, a touchdown and an interception, which resulted in Daniels being "disappointed" in himself.
"I was disappointed. He was disappointed in the choice on a rollout, trying to drive the ball, and the guy undercut it for the interception," FSU head coach Mike Norvell said during his game week press conference.
"But for the most part, he saw it well. There's some things that, even in the first game getting out there, a couple of drops that could be cleaner after that, I think would help with timing. There are a couple of route depths that we got to continue to make sure we're getting to where we need to get to on that. But I mean, as a whole, I thought he did some good things."
The second quarter interception didn't prove costly, though it came in a 10-7 game and it's a decision that raised alarms with Daniels' turnover history. However, he corrected himself in the game on the second play of the third quarter, tucking the football and running for a first down on a rollout rather than forcing a ball into tight coverage.
