COLLEGE STATION - Texas A&M head coach Mike Elko believes his team is good enough to compete. He knows the Aggies have to the talent to win football games.
But ahead of Saturday's 6 p.m. season opener at Kyle Field against Missouri State, Elko reiterated that the 2026 Texas A&M team has proven nothing yet on the field.
"Finally, we get to stop talking," Elko said during his Monday news conference. "Finally, we get to stop talking about what things can be, what things can be about and we get to run out of the tunnel and go play somebody else. It's beyond past the time to go do that."
Expectations are high for the Aggies in Elko's third season with a preseason ranking of No. 8 and coming off their best season in more than a decade. Last year's team, despite losing its last two games to Texas and then Miami in the College Football Playoff, won 11 games for only the third time in three decades.
