The Faxon Law New Haven Road Race will celebrate its 49th anniversary on Labor Day with about 6,000 runners expected on the New Haven Green.
The event will include a half marathon, half marathon relay, 5K, Town Fair Tire Kids Fun Run and the signature 20K race. The Kids Run will begin at 8:10 a.m., followed by the half marathon, 20K, 5K and half marathon relay at 8:30 a.m.
The 20K will serve as the USA Track & Field Men's and Women's 20K Championships for the 35th consecutive year. It is the longest-running USATF championship event in the country and will feature three U.S. Olympians, a three-time race winner and several national champions.
Colorado's Leonard Korir, a 2024 U.S. Olympian in the marathon and a 2016 Olympian in the 10,000 meters, is a three-time Faxon Law 20K champion, having won in 2016, 2017 and 2018. Oregon's Charles Hicks, who ran a 2:04 marathon in Boston this year, and Minnesota's Joel Reichow, the top American at last year's New York City Marathon, are expected to challenge Korir.
Colorado's Shadrack Kipchirchir, a 2016 U.S. Olympian in the 10,000 meters, also is expected to contend after finishing near the top in his two previous Faxon Law 20K appearances.
