It's been quite the ride for Kentucky Basketball to get Mark Mitchell eligible next season. Not only is the NCAA trying to deny players a fifth season of eligibility, but the SEC is fighting to keep Mitchell from playing at Kentucky since he did not enter the spring transfer portal window.
However, legal expert Darren Heitner now reports that the SEC is planning to comply with any court orders related to eligibility.
"To be clear, nothing requires any school to roster any player," Heitner wrote on Twitter. "However, if the school decides it is in its best interests to do so, the court order should provide sufficient cover."
So, for the time being, Kentucky should be in the clear even if Mitchell is on the roster.
However, things could change quickly depending on how the battles in court ultimately play out. But this is still good news for Kentucky and Mitchell's bid to keep him eligible and playing for the Wildcats.
