Something I've seen several times here is the notion that the A's will have trouble luring a quality GM to be the next front office leader of the club. After all several openings will exist (we know for sure Houston is looking) and why would a GM choose the A's, a nomadic team closing in on 100 losses if they're not careful?
Glad you asked. To A's fans things might look bleak at the moment, as the team limps to the finish line in a season that has been epically disappointing. But to a GM coming on board, there is much to recommend the job:
1. A new stadium is imminent and that is always a terrific position for a franchise to be in. With the opening of a new stadium — and in this case also a new city location — comes excitement and the promise of a new revenue stream.
Now you and I may be as skeptical as we want as to how much Las Vegas will embrace the A's, how many of the fans will be die-hard A's fans and not tourists pulling hard for the opponent, whether all the games will be sold out or whether a small stadium will still struggle to fill every seat.
Nonetheless it's pretty much a given that attendance will be strong in the maiden years and that overall it will dwarf the numbers from Oakland and Sacramento, if only because those numbers were so small.
