WEST LAFAYETTE – You could argue Purdue football's most important need in the offseason was in the secondary.
The Boilermakers made a concerted effort to lure experienced power conference defensive backs from the transfer portal, adding size and depth more so than at any other position.
Now, defensive passing game coordinator Charles Clark and defensive coordinator Kevin Kane have the task of finding who will play and where they'll play.
There's a lot of versatility among the group, and cross-training guys at safety, corner, and nickel provides flexibility.
It's hard to imagine Purdue won't be better in the secondary a season after the Boilers ranked 117th nationally in points per game allowed. Purdue totaled four interceptions all last season, ranking last in the Big Ten.
