Hayden Panettiere's death follows the loss of her "best friend" and younger brother, Jansen Panettiere, and the fracturing of her relationship with her mother.
The "Scream" actress, who died Aug. 16 after authorities found her "unresponsive" at an apartment complex in South Carolina, heavily struggled with the 2023 death of her brother from cardiomegaly (or an enlarged heart), coupled with aortic valve complications, at age 28.
"He was my only sibling, and it was my job to protect him," Panettiere told People in 2024. "When I lost him, I felt like I lost half of my soul."
In her recent memoir "This Is Me: A Reckoning," Panettiere revealed the former child actor was heavily abusing drugs, including crack and heroin, before he died.
