The New Britain Bees edged the three-time defending champion Norwich Sea Unicorns, 3-2, in the opening game of the Futures League playoffs Monday night before a crowd of 2,139 at New Britain Stadium.
Norwich defeated New Britain in last year's championship series.
After a one hour and 44 minute rain delay, the Bees struck first in the bottom of the first inning. Tim Henning (Binghamton) led off with a single and stole second. Henning moved to third on a ground out from Tyler Garbooshian (Rutgers) and scored on a sacrifice fly from Michael Olender (Lehigh).
Norwich tied it in the top of the fifth. CJ Nolan (Sacred Heart) led off with a single and stole second. With two outs, Nolan stole third and scored on a wild pitch.
