Mike Tomlin Explains Why he Doesn't Miss Coaching Yet originally appeared on SportsNet Pittsburgh. Add SportsNet Pittsburgh as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
When Mike Tomlin stepped down after 19 seasons as head coach of the Steelers, reports indicated he planned to take some time away from coaching. Given his age, many figured it was only a matter of time until he returned to an NFL sideline.
For now, Tomlin isn't thinking about that. Now working as an ******* yst for NBC's NFL coverage, the former Steelers coach said during the network's Hall of Fame Game broadcast that he doesn't have the desire to return just yet.
"I haven't thought a whole lot about it yet, because I don't feel like I'm missing anything yet," Tomlin said. "You know, when those regular-season ******* start snapping, that's when I'll start, you know, getting a little twitch a little bit."
Tomlin admitted his mentality could change in the months ahead as the season plays out. If he sees training camps and the preseason playing out and wants no part of it, however, that might be a sign he made the right decision, given how much of a head coach's job is about what happens before the regular season.
