For years, Julie LaPlaca helped produce The Bachelor's biggest love stories. Then she found herself at the center of one.
When Peter Weber led ABC's dating show in 2020, Bachelor Nation became fixated on rumors that the pilot had developed a relationship with a producer on the show while searching for love. Internet sleuths zeroed in on LaPlaca, fueling years of speculation about what really happened between them.
In her new memoir, The Love Producer, out now, LaPlaca confirms that her friendship with Weber — who proposed to winner Hannah Ann Sluss at the end of his season before moving on with contestant Kelley Flanagan — turned romantic and that the two eventually hooked up. LaPlaca writes about spending years wondering what could have been — and how letting go of those "what-ifs" became crucial to moving on.
After excerpts from the memoir surfaced, Weber pushed back on parts of LaPlaca's account. Following the book's release, he told TMZ that he'd repeatedly asked LaPlaca not to include him or details of their off-camera relationship in the memoir, adding that he hopes she "finds the love that we all deserve."
But while readers may come for the gossip, as longtime Bachelor Nation host Chris Harrison writes in the book's foreword, they'll likely stay for something deeper: the story of a woman who spent years helping other people find love without finding her own happy ending.
