Even though Spain have done well to reach the semifinals of this World Cup, beating the likes of Austria, Portugal, and Belgium in the process, it has not been a particularly impressive World Cup for Pedri.
The midfielder has faced criticism for his performances. Although he has been consistent as ever with his passing and movement, the creative output hasn’t been there, with Luis de la Fuente notably benching him in favour of Fabian Ruiz against Belgium.

In the midst of this criticism, Pedri has found support from former Atletico Madrid midfielder Mario Suarez, who made no attempt to hide his admiration for the Barcelona star.
“I have a soft spot for Pedri; to me, he’s the best midfielder in the world,” Suarez said (h/t Jijantes).
