Willson Contreras has been one of the Red Sox's best players this year, and they will need him to be healthy if they want to make any kind of miraculous push for the postseason.
Contreras was named to the All-Star Game earlier this week as a replacement, but he suffered an injury in Wednesday's game against the Chicago White Sox. If his injury is serious, it's safe to ******* ume he won't be playing in the Midsummer Classic after all.
Contreras fouled a ball off his foot in the bottom of the second inning, and appeared to roll his ankle covering first base in the third inning. He immediately motioned to the dugout and was replaced by Romy Gonzalez.
The Red Sox revealed that Contreras has a left foot contusion. The Red Sox were able to go on and win the game without Contreras, but they will now have to wait and see what his status is moving forward. With the All-Star Break coming up, the team could play it safe and give him a few games off.
