NEWARK - The Advocate sports staff later this week will announce and celebrate the outstanding accomplishments of The Advocate Male Athlete of the Year.
As part of the USA Today’s 250 for 250 celebration, however, we decided to take a look back at some of the best male athletes to play in Licking County. We of course cannot go back 250 years, but we decided to take a quick glance at The Advocate Male Athlete of the Year honorees from the past two decades.
Saved his best for last in a season year to remember, striking out 68 batters in 54 innings while recording a 1.25 ERA and hitting .386 with eight home runs and 28 RBIs for the baseball team, leading the Warriors to their first Division II regional championship in program history.
Starred at receiver for the football team, catching 32 passes for 691 yards and six touchdowns, all then school records for the Warriors, as a senior as a receiver and was a standout for the basketball team.
