Now, Williams has earned more fan love off the court. He joined a growing list of professional athlete investors in OKC's new soccer franchise and stadium. Echo Investment Capital announced on Thursday that Williams, former OU QB Baker Mayfield and Olympic medalist Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone have financially invested in the MAPS 4 initiative. They join other local sports legends like Russell Westbrook, Jozy Altidore and Nik Bonito.
Oklahoma City's new professional soccer team is set to debut in the 2028 USL Championship. It will be the anchor tenant of the MAPS 4 multipurpose stadium in downtown OKC. Funded by the MAPS 4 initiative, the venue serves as the centerpiece of Echo's real estate development, integrating sports, entertainment and education. The stadium broke ground in June 2026 and will open in 2028. The club's name, colors and branding will be unveiled later this year.
On the Thunder for four seasons, Williams has ascended into one of the NBA's top players. The 25-year-old is a one-time All-NBA selection with All-Star and All-Defense also on his resume. Starting a five-year, $239.3 million contract extension this upcoming season, he figures to play his best hoops in OKC as it tries to bring home more rings and banners.
