While many people seem to expect LeBron James to either remain with the Los Angeles Lakers or return to the Cleveland Cavaliers this summer, there is at least an outside chance he will join the Golden State Warriors. According to a recent report, Stephen Curry planned a meeting with LeBron James about possibly teaming up, and James has been good friends with both Curry and Draymond Green.
It is debatable whether there is any real chance of James signing with Golden State this summer. But writer and podcaster Bill Simmons seems absolutely sure it will happen.
"Before we get to Giannis [Antetokounmpo], LeBron, what happens with that is a good one," Simmons said. "This one is a really fun one because the Warriors is really in play now, like for real. I really feel like if I had to bet my life on a team, I'd think I would bet on them . . . I think that would be the move for me."
Simmons is a huge Boston Celtics fan and Lakers hater, so Lakers fans should likely take his statement with a grain of salt. Golden State can, in all likelihood, offer James only the non-taxpayer mid-level exception of roughly $15 million, unless they do a sign-and-trade with Los Angeles.
L.A., on the other hand, is poised to have tens of millions of dollars of salary cap ****** e, which means it could potentially offer the future Hall of Famer a max or near-max salary. He also, of course, has established roots in the Southland, and his son, Bronny, plays for the Lakers, while his other son, Bryce, is at the University of Arizona.
