Beginning at the turn of the month, as 24 new White Sox (20 draft picks and four UDFAs) **** umed their places in the White Sox organization, there was the usual downside of players cut to make room. Not coincidentally, there were 24 cuts made to affiliate rosters:
Triple-A Charlotte Knights cuts
2B Darren Baker
Most notable for being Dusty Baker's son and the baby batboy who almost got run over on the field, at age 27 Baker is near the end of his professional time, which means his MLB .500 career average (7-for-14) will be something he can carry with him forever. He was signed to the White Sox organization before the 2026 season and sat out all but 13 games of it with injuries.
RHRP Chase Plymell
The No. 69 preseason South Side Sox prospect, Plymell was a 2021 UDFA success, working his way all the way up to Triple-A and having particularly promising stretches at Double-A and Charlotte in 2023-24. Fell off badly with the Knights this season (6.55 ERA in 33 relief innings).
RHRP Lucas Sims
After signing, releasing and re-signing Sims earlier this year, the White Sox are letting him go, again. The 10-year veteran saw nine nondescript games (4.50 ERA) with the big club this season but was godawful in Charlotte.
RHRP Javy Guerra
The five-year veteran signed on with the White Sox in June after being cut by Atlanta, and pitched well for the Knights over 10 games (3.09 ERA, five finishes, two saves). This would seem a move borne of a contract wrinkle or make-good to Guerra, giving him a shot to catch on for the stretch run with someone else.

Rochester Red Wings 10, Charlotte Knights 9
The Knights (42-34) came up just short in a wild one despite outhitting the Red Wings 12-10. The bats snoozed through the early frames until Nolan Jones finally got things cooking in the fourth with his 10th bomb of the year. Korey Lee chipped in an RBI double in the sixth to make it 3-2, but then came the seventh. It was a full-on meltdown, with Rochester tagging Adisyn Coffey and Chase Plymell for seven runs, and the Knights were buried under a mountain of tallies.
Charlotte refused to go away, though, answering with four runs in the bottom of the seventh. Rikuu Nishida and Dustin Harris both with RBI knocks, and Jones lacing a two-run double to keep the corpse twitching at 10-6. In the ninth inning, it was one last gasp with the Knights putting up three more runs. Jones with a sac fly for his fourth RBI, Caden Connor slapping a two-run single to bring Charlotte within a run, but that was the end of the magic. On the hill, Duncan Davitt provided a bright spot for three hitless innings, and Jared Kelly closed up the last two frames, allowing two hits, a walk, and two punchouts.

Another night, another double-digit outburst for Charlotte (32-28). The Knights wasted zero time as Braden Montgomery and Caden Connor drew back-to-back walks to open the first, Korey Lee watched strike three, and Dustin Harris promptly laced a single to plate Montgomery. 1-0, Knights.
Durham answered in the bottom half, but not without a little charity. Shane Murphy served up a leadoff single, then airmailed a pickoff to move the runner up. A grounder pushed him to third, and Korey Lee let a pitch get by to gift the tying run.
Charlotte’s bats responded in the second. The Knights hung a crooked four on the Bulls, capped by Connor unloading for a three-run shot — his third of the year — to put Charlotte up 5-1 and feeling pretty cozy.
That comfort was gone in a hurry as Murphy unraveled over the next two frames with Durham chipping away, eventually knotting things at 5-5. The Bulls even nosed ahead 6-5 in the sixth off Chase Plymell, threatening to turn Charlotte’s big night into a wasted effort.
But the Knights had other ideas in the eighth. Ryan Galanie sparked the rally with a one-out double, Andy Weber knocked an RBI single to tie it, and after a Josh Breaux fly out, Weber swiped second and scored on a clutch Jason Matthews base hit. Charlotte back on top, 7-6.
