What would you do with $2-5 million?
Buy a reasonably priced home? Not in this market. What about paying off some debt? That's a reasonable idea. Set aside a little to wager on some college football? Could win or lose yourself some money that way. (It is Vegas we're talking about after all.) You could also buy roughly 2 million Mountain Dew Baja Blasts from Taco Bell if you are like me and love the Bell.
But, as one of our recent SB Nation Reacts Surveys will show, plenty of you would use that chunk of change to purchase the UNLV men's basketball team that is TOTALLY NOT FOR SALE if you ask Josh Pastner (again).
Forty percent of voters picked the $2-5 million range, which felt like a low-ball given how that is the going rate for some of college sport's most coveted players. How much can one UNLV men's basketball be worth? Possibly one whole Yaxel Lendeborg, apparently.
Thirty percent picked $10 million and up, which was what UNLV head coach Josh Pastner valued his team at when he jokingly said someone should buy the program, which started this fun hypothetical — one that feels all too possible with private equity and venture capital circling our beloved college sports.

Former Georgia Tech coach Josh Pastner has a habit of, let's say, awkward speech. No one doubts his intelligence. He finished at Arizona in 2 1/2 years, despite being a walk-on on the basketball team and having, for all intents and purposes, a part-time coaching job.
It takes a tremendous amount of intelligence and discipline to do that.
But he does at times say awkward things. At one point, he set up his voicemail with a riff on being positive that lasted at least a minute. On another, he spoke of wanting to live to 120 because he loved college basketball so much.
And just within the last few days, Pastner, now at UNLV, said he was looking for "an owner" for his basketball program.
That caused a bit of an uproar, so Pastner had to put out a statement about it, and here's what he said:

BYU Basketball’s non-conference schedule is nearly done, and we got another piece to the puzzle Tuesday. UNLV Head Coach Josh Pastner said on Las Vegas radio said that UNLV will host BYU in an exhibition game Saturday, October 24 in the Thomas and Mack Center in Las Vegas. BYU already has an exhibition game versus Nebraska Friday, October 16 in Provo. Exhibitions are preseason games and do not count against a team’s win totals — BYU played exhibitions last season at Nebraska and versus North Carolina in the Delta Center. The NCAA is allowing teams to play three exhibition games this season, up from two last year. One source told me earlier this offseason that BYU may elect to have its third exhibition as a closed-door scrimmage.
Below is what we know about the non-conference schedule. BYU will play 18 Big 12 games and 14 non-conference games. For the 14 non-conference contests, I expect seven Q1/Q2 type games and seven “buy” games in Provo. A buy game is when a team pays another lesser team to come to its home gym.
I am tracking 13 of the 14 non-conference games (not counting exhibitions).
Exhibitions
vs Nebraska, 10/16 in Provo
