Craig Melvin's family is celebrating a major milestone in his mother's breast cancer journey.
While taping the "Today" show on Monday, Aug. 17, the 47-year-old co-anchor announced that his mom, Betty Jo Melvin, "rang the bell" to celebrate the end of her cancer treatment. He shared the news after Jenna Bush Hager's "Morning Boost" segment showed a woman's granddaughter surprising her on her final day of chemotherapy.
"Oh Craig, you have the Monday feels over there!" Bush Hager said after the clip was played.
USA TODAY has reached out to a "Today" representative for more information.
Betty Jo Melvin was diagnosed with breast cancer in June 2025 after undergoing a routine annual mammogram, she told WIS News 10 in an August 2025 appearance on the news station.

In a recent interview with The Times, the actress got candid about where she stands in her career, while also sharing some unfiltered thoughts on politics, how Hollywood has perceived her over the years, and whether another role could tempt her back to the screen.
While Channing hasn't officially announced her retirement, she doesn't exactly sound like someone anxiously waiting for the phone to ring. After more than five decades on stage and screen, the actress seems perfectly comfortable with the possibility that her next chapter may not involve acting at all.
Speaking to current projects, Channing stated that she is now working behind the scenes instead of in front of audiences, as she helms a stage production for the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. "I am directing Krapp's Last Tape in Edinburgh this year — with my good friend David Westhead," said the actress. "But I'm not sure I'll do anything after that. Acting is like everything in life; you never know what's going to happen."

The Gossip Girl alum—mom to kids James, 11, Inez, 9, Betty, 6, and Olin, 3, with husband Ryan Reynolds—shared a rare glimpse into the family's recent day out as they watched The Proposal star's soccer team Wrexham AFC take on the Liverpool Football Club at Yankee Stadium.
In a photo carousel shared to Instagram Aug. 7, Lively included several snaps of herself and Reynolds as they posed together in front of a Yankees mural, watched the game from the stands and shared a sweet embrace with their children and each other.
The slideshow also included several pics of the duo alongside friends and family who joined them for the occasion. In another photo Lively, 38, showed off her black heels and anklets before swapping them for a pair of Nike sneakers.
