The Chanel ambassador's Oscars look remains one of my favourite menswear moments of the year, but this? This was highly disappointing.
I say that fully aware that the New York Film Festival has a more relaxed dress code than Cannes, Venice, London or even Toronto. The individual elements are here, but nothing is working together for me.
I can see the hybrid idea he was going for: part old-Hollywood leading man with the striped shirt, tie and waistcoat, and part relaxed, contemporary dressing with the wide-leg tan trousers and rolled-up sleeves. But those two ideas never quite meet in the middle.
