A former Cornell University student filed a civil lawsuit alleging that seven members of the Chi Phi fraternity drugged or pressured her to use drugs and alcohol and **** ually **** aulted her over several hours at the fraternity house in October 2024. The lawsuit and alleged fraternity Snapchat messages have since drawn national attention and scrutiny of Cornell's response.
The allegations have sparked widespread outrage and renewed scrutiny of **** ual violence on college campuses, fraternity culture, and how universities and law enforcement respond when students report **** ual **** ault.
Florence Pugh was among the first in Hollywood to speak out. "This is really the moment where we need our men to be as horrified and as sickened as us," part of her statement on Instagram on Sept. 28 said. "How can you expect us to trust that it's 'not all men' when in moments like this many of you stay quiet?"
Mariska Hargitay, Josh Gad and Hudson Williams also called out the allegations and demanded accountability, part of what has become a national conversation about **** ual violence, fraternity culture, and the institutions tasked with protecting students.
While some people argue that celebrities should stay in their lane and avoid activism, advocates say the response matters.
