The Jacksonville Jaguars waived linebacker Yasir Abdullah during roster cutdowns. He will now be joining the Atlanta Falcons' 53-man roster after being claimed on waivers.
During his tenure with the Jaguars, Abdullah has emerged as a core special teams contributor, playing 435 snaps over the last two seasons across five of the six different phases.
This summer, however, he found himself in a crowded linebacker room. As camp unfolded, it looked like Abdullah, Jalen McLeod, and perhaps even Jahlani Tavai were competing for one roster spot.
Abdullah had an impressive performance in the preseason opener against New Orleans, which included logging one for a loss, a sack, and a quarterback hit. He also helped create the disruption that led to the fumble by Spencer Rattler.
However, he took a step backward in Week 2 and then did not play in the finale against Tampa Bay.
