Filisi Filipe, Herriman (Sr.)
A thousand-yard rusher a year ago, Herriman senior running back Filisi Filipe could be on his way to doubling that output after a dominant season opener last week.
Filipe carried the ball 27 times for 276 yards and three touchdowns, leading Herriman to a 25-14 victory over Bountiful. His 73-yard TD run with 1:14 left in the game iced the victory for the Mustangs.
"Filisi is a workhorse. He has the power, speed and the toughness to be the best running back in the state," said Herriman coach Matt Rickards.
A year ago, Filipe rushed for 1,108 yards and 16 TDs and was voted a second team all-stater.
