Football finance expert Stefan Borson says the consortium comprising of billionaire Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, British-Indian millionaire businessman Amit Bhatia and Facebook co-founder Eduardo Saverin is "one of the wealthiest to have ever gone after a football club".
BBC Sport has been told the group have advanced its talks to buy about a 30% stake in Liverpool.
Owners Fenway Sports Group (FSG) confirmed last month that the group had "expressed interest in making a strategic minority investment in Liverpool Football Club".
"I don't think there's any suggestion of a full sale yet," said Borson on BBC Radio 5 Live's Monday Night Club. "But we have to be realistic.
"It is one of the wealthiest consortium's that have ever gone after a football club.
