Celebrity blogger Perez Hilton has been hospitalized after posting a distressing livestream video to TikTok.
The video prompted authorities to attend Hilton's home in Miami amid concerns he was "livestreaming acts of self-harm on social media." Hilton's TikTok account has since been suspended.
Miami-Dade police did not name the celebrity but said they received multiple calls from fans and attended the scene, where they spoke with members of Hilton's family outside and "tactically disengaged."
"In many incidents involving a person experiencing a mental health crisis or actively harming themselves, deputies prioritize deescalation by creating time, distance, and opportunities for communication," the Miami-Dade sheriff's office said in a statement issued to the media.
"Unless there is an immediate threat to others, slowing the situation and utilizing crisis intervention techniques can reduce the likelihood of a suicide-by-cop encounter and minimize the risk of injury to the individual, deputies and the public."
