Bosnia and Herzegovina striker Edin Dzeko has signed a new one-year contract with Schalke, the Bundesliga club said in a statement on Monday.
The player will join the squad for training on Tuesday after representing his nation at the World Cup in the United States, Mexico and Canada.
Dzeko joined Schalke from Fiorentina in January and played a key role in the club's promotion to the Bundesliga, scoring six goals and providing six ***** ists in 11 matches.
"Edin brought something special to Schalke 04 during his first four and a half months at the club. He was a key player and a fan favourite, while his personality meant he always set an example both on and off the pitch. We therefore believe that he can help us in the Bundesliga too," director of professional football Youri Mulder said.
Dzeko will continue to wear the number 10 jersey.
