USMNT star Folarin Balogun is holding his head high after a red card that'll render him unavailable for Monday's Round of 16 match against Belgium. The controversial call came during the Americans' 2-0 win over Bosnia and Herzegovina in the Round of 32.
Referee Raphael Claus made the decision after video review of the 64th minute incident, as Balogun appeared to inadvertently step on Tarik Muharemovic's foot before they tumbled onto the pitch. USMNT coach Mauricio Pochettino didn't agree with the call, as did fans who pointed out a similar play by Argentina's Lionel Messi that didn't garner a red card.
While the country is in uproar over the red card and the inability to appeal it, Balogun is focused on what he can control while growing from this experience. So, he posted a fitting song to his Instagram story: Kanye West's Stronger.
"Nah-nah-nah that, that don't kill me," West, who now goes by Ye, raps in the 2007 hit. "Can only make us stronger."
Balogun, the Americans' leading scorer, certainly hopes his team gets strong enough to win and advance in his absence Monday.
