Zach Johnson was the headliner at the 2026 Principal Charity Classic, and he wasn't going to let anyone steal his thunder.
Johnson, a PGA Tour Champions rookie, made his first start at Wakonda Club in Des Moines in his home state of Iowa and drew big galleries. Sunday evening, he sent the multitude of fans home with smiles on their faces after shooting a final-round 5-under 67 to win the tournament, his second win this season.
In eight starts on the senior circuit, he has seven top-4 finishes. His first win came in his first time out on the Champions tour back in March. Now he's a winner on home turf.
Johnson shot 63 on Saturday, the low round of the week, and started Sunday with the lead, but briefly gave that up to Richard Green, who playing several holes ahead. But the former Drake standout Johnson made five birdies over an 11-hole stretch, including Nos. 12, 13 and 15 to stake himself to a three-shot lead.
He closed it out in style, making one final birdie on the par-4 18th hole to seal the four-shot win.
