LONG POND — It was a race that felt more like survival than a contest of speed, but Justin Allgaier was the first to cross the finish line during the O'Reilly Series' MillerTech Battery 250 at Pocono Raceway. The win was Allgaier's fifth of the season, and second straight win after taking the checkered flag in Nashville.
Saturday's race was one of the most chaotic in recent memory, with the caution flag appearing 19 times over the course of the 100-lap race. including 10 cautions. Eleven racers didn't finish the race due to various accidents, whether they were involved in a multi-car episode or a self-inflicted incident.
It was difficult for the drivers, including Allgaier, to find any momentum with all the stoppage.
"At the start of the race we had those early cautions, and it just seemed like we would never get going, “Allgaier said. "Towards the middle of the race, we had some long, green flag runs and I thought "OK, we're gonna be in good shape.
"There's so many scenarios that just aren't normal for a lot of the places we go, but I love coming to this racetrack because of that. It's what makes this place so cool, and the non-winning part is what made today so much more special."
