One travel influencer got a little too close to the local wildlife when a seemingly peaceful swim with turtles ended with one taking a bite out of her.
Cynthia Benitez shared the hilarious encounter during a trip to Tanzania in an Instagram video on August 13, in which she is seen in a lagoon surrounded by turtles.
At first, everything appeared idyllic, but while Benitez had her attention focused on a larger turtle in front of her, another quietly approached from behind.
The turtle suddenly nipped the unsuspecting woman, sending her lunging forward and frantically splashing through the water before quickly making her escape.
"I thought turtles were supposed to be harmless…," Benitez joked in the caption alongside the clip.

My son is 4 years old. He is just now getting into so many things. It is incredible to share stuff like Super Mario or Ninja Turtles with him. I am truly so blessed.
There are a lot of things for kids to be into obviously, and while anime is one of them (in no way saying it is purely for kids here) it was never something that I got into myself.
Thankfully I had a chance to talk to an expert about it recently. Arizona Cardinals running back Jeremiyah Love, the third overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft, is an anime expert. I knew this in a general sense, but I wanted to understand exactly what role it played in his life.
Love told me that he doesn’t watch anything else in life. He said he doesn’t partake in American shows or movies, not that he is against them or anything, and that he only consumes anime. Got it. The right person to teach me.
To be clear I mentioned to Love how I was doing recon work for the purposes around my son. He mentioned that anime is obviously very cool for kids, but he then said something that really made me think.

Jamie Lee Curtis has announced that her older sister, Kelly Curtis, has died aged 69.
The Freaky Friday alum, 67, posted an emotional tribute Saturday on Instagram, alongside a black and white photo of her sister. Kelly’s cause of death has not been shared.
“A warm aloha to my older sister, Kelly Lee Curtis. She passed away this morning. In her home. In nature. At peace,” she wrote. “She was my first friend and lifelong confidant. She was jaw droppingly beautiful, and a talented actress. She played a mean game of hearts, collected turtles, loved her family, nature, music, thrifting, travel, Facebook, and Pokémon Go. She was proud of her Danish roots and Hungarian Jewish ancestry and was a devoted American patriot.
“She will be remembered for her loving generosity, fierce opinions, endless curiosity, unique style, and her powdered, almond, crescent cookies at Christmas, hence her name, Auntie Cookie.”
Jamie continued: “Kelly always signed off any message or fare thee well with a Hungarian blessing… Isten Veled, God is with you. Isten Veled to my sister of the sun and the moon, my Tai. I’ll see you on down the line.”

Some 80 million years ago, an earthquake seemed to have sent a flock of frightened sea turtles scrambling across the seafloor.
Traces of this prehistoric panic were stumbled upon by a group of free climbers in 2019 on a steep slope overlooking the Adriatic Sea, which the public is typically prohibited from accessing due to rockfalls. They noticed a chunk of rock covered with marks that looked like footprints and snapped some photos. One of the climbers later showed these to Paolo Sandroni, a geologist (and fellow free climber) at the Marche region’s Multi-Risk Functional Center in Italy.
