08.08.2026, Radom Mecz PKO Ekstraklasa sezon 2026/27 Radomiak Radom – Gornik Zabrze – Football Match Polish Top League Radomiak Radom – Gornik Zabrze Nz. Paulo Bernardo Fot. Michal Chwieduk/Arena Akcji/NEWSPIX.PL — newspix.pl
With game-time likely to be limited this season, the pair agreed that the former Benfica and Portugal under 21 captain would benefit from going out on loan to get game-time and perhaps rebuild his career after it stalling over the past season.
A move to Poland may have been a surprising choice for Bernardo but perhaps there's some clarity this morning from the Portuguese midfielder as he reveals the role his former Celtic teammate Luis Palma played in influencing his decision to join Gornik Zabrze.
Bernardo made his debut for the Polish side at the weekend against Radomiak Radom and by all accounts made an instant impact. And after the match Bernardo revealed that his close friend Luis Palma was instrumental in convincing him to accept the opportunity to join Gornik Zabrze.
Luis Palma of course ended his time as a Celtic player this summer after converting his loan period at Lech Poznan following a £3.5m transfer from the Scottish Champions. And the Honduran winger was more than happy to recommend a loan spell in Polish football to his former Celtic teammate.

It’s fair to say that Luka Vušković has been on quite the rise over the last few seasons. Now having completed a £50m move to Brighton & Hove Albion, the Croatian is set to embark on the next chapter of his career at a club that has seen so many players thrive over the past few years.
The young defender was snapped up by Tottenham Hotspur at the age of just 16 after breaking into the Hajduk Split first team. Though he would have to wait until turning 18 to arrive in North London, the two intervening seasons came and went as Vušković impressed on loan at Radomiak Radom in the Polish Ekstraklasa and Westerlo in the Belgian Pro League.
Upon his eventual arrival in N17, incoming Spurs manager Thomas Frank felt he wasn’t quite ready to become a Premier League regular and would benefit from another season out on loan. At newly promoted Bundesliga side Hamburg, Vušković found a temporary home that allowed him to thrive, showcasing his talents against Europe’s best on a weekly basis.
With Hamburg in need of a result after tasting defeat in their opening two games, the 18-year-old announced himself in the Bundesliga on his home debut, scoring an astute volley inside the box to give his side a lead they would not relinquish. Vušković peeled off in celebration and gave the HSV faithful a first glimpse of a scene they would become accustomed to by the season’s climax.
The Croatian produced a season consecutive man of the match display after the international break when Hamburg travelled to the capital to face Union Berlin. This time, though, Vušković claimed the award after displaying a different side to his game from two weeks earlier. Towering above the rest, he broke the record across Europe’s top five leagues for headed clearances in a single match with 18.

It’s done. Well, it’s been done for a while but now it’s official. Tottenham Hotspur formally announced the departure of defender Luka Vuskovic to Brighton & Hove Albion. Spurs will receive a guaranteed £48m in fees, and the contract includes a 20% sell-on whenever Brighton decide to sell Vuskovic in the future.
The move comes before the Croatian wunderkind even made an official first team appearance with Spurs. Tottenham agreed to purchasehe Vuskovic from his boyhood club Hajkuk Split when he was 15, but weren’t able to formally sign him until he turned 18. In the meantime, Vuskovic spent his time eternally on loan — first at Radomiak Radom in Poland, then a stint at Westerlo in Belgium before his impressive loan with Hamburg in the Bundesliga last season. That Hamburg season was amazing — he was named to the Bundesliga team of the season and by season’s end he had cemented his status as one of the most talented young players in Europe.
However, he still seemed seemingly stuck as a 4th or 5th choice CB at Tottenham Hotspur, and there were questions as to whether his skill set would transfer to Roberto De Zerbi’s new tactics at Spurs. Vuskovic is excellent in the air and positionally solid, but his speed is something of a concern in the fast-paced Premier League. Named to Croatia’s World Cup squad, Vuskovic and his agents started making noise this summer about wanting to leave the club, eventually leading to where we are now.
£50m+ for a 19-year-old defender who hasn’t played in the Premier League yet is very good money, and Tottenham made the decision to cash in on his potential rather than keep a potentially unhappy future star on the bench. Vuskovic clearly just wanted to play ball, and he’ll have a much better chance of getting regular playing time at Brighton (replacing Jan Paul van Hecke, now at Spurs) than if he stayed in north London. I would’ve wished for a buy-back clause in the deal, but getting 20% of any future sale is a nice cherry on top of the cake.
I wish I could’ve seen Luka play for us at least once, but that’s not to be. Tottenham made a business decision with Vuskovic, and considering the outlay they’ve already spent on transfers this summer, it’s not a dumb move from a business perspective. But we’ll always be wondering what might have happened if we had stuck to our guns.
