Williams' latest plea highlights a years-long fight for independence after she was placed in a guardianship in 2022.
Wendy Williams is publicly renewing her call for freedom from the court-ordered guardianship that has controlled aspects of her life since 2022.
During a rare New York City appearance, the former talk-show host told a paparazzo, "I want out!" as questions surrounding her health, independence and legal status continue.
Williams' brief public statement comes after years of controversy surrounding her guardianship and medical care. She has repeatedly objected to the arrangement, previously saying she wanted control of the money she earned throughout her career. According to Page Six, the guardianship began in 2022 after Wells Fargo raised concerns about Williams' ability to manage her affairs. Attorney Sabrina Morrissey was subsequently appointed as her legal guardian.
Williams' health has remained central to the dispute. In 2024, her representatives disclosed diagnoses of frontotemporal dementia and aphasia following medical testing. However, additional testing in 2025 reportedly led doctors to question or walk back the dementia diagnosis, adding another layer of uncertainty to her legal battle. The guardianship was also the focus of a four-part documentary for Lifetime, for which Morrissey sued after her attempts to block its release failed. Both she and A&E settled, although Williams was paid a "paltry" $82,000 for her appearance.

One under-the-radar position battle taking place at training camp for the Indianapolis Colts doesn't appear to be off to a great start.
While we know that Tanor Bortolini will be the Colts' starting center, it remains to be seen who the backup will be.
Taking the bulk of those second-team snaps have been Dalton Tucker and Jimmy Morrissey. Also on the roster are UDFAs Geno VanDeMark and Josh Kreutz.
Through four training camp practices, off-target or errant snaps have been far too common.
"One alarming item through the start of camp, and even something we saw in the spring, has been consistent snap issues with the backups," wrote Kevin Bowen of 107.5 The Fan.

SLINGER – On a scorching night when tempers flared, Casey Johnson was in the right place at the right time in the chaotic 47th Slinger Nationals to earn the biggest victory of his career.
The veteran from Edgerton edged Austin Nason and Richard Childress Racing prospect Carson Brown, leading just the final three laps of 200 on July 14 at Slinger Speedway.
In the waning laps, four-time and defending champion Ty Majeski, top qualifier Gabe Sommers and Andrew Morrissey all fell out due to contact from a race they had led or battled to lead. Brown’s car, too, showed scars of a battle with Morrissey, but he was able to get to the finish.
Majeski seemed to have the race in control as he led 76 laps caution free after a midway break. But a restart bunched the field, he tangled with Sommers in their battle for the lead with four laps to go. Both spun, and Sommers made his anger known.
That put Brown and Morrissey together on the front row for the next restart. Brown ran Morrissey high on the front stretch, and Morrissey apparently paid him back on the back stretch, ending his own night.
