Aug 28 (Reuters) - China's top memory chipmaker, ChangXin Memory Technologies, sued the Pentagon on Friday over being placed on a list of companies the United States believes are aiding Beijing's military.
The Pentagon did not immediately respond to a Reuters request for comment.
The company was designated a Chinese military company by the U.S. Defense Department under the Biden administration and was retained on the list by the Trump administration during a June update.
"CXMT is not affiliated with the Chinese military," the company said in the lawsuit. "CXMT designs, produces, and sells its DRAM chips for civilian and commercial use, not for military use," the company said.

CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. (AP) — ******* eX has pulled off its biggest salvage operation yet, recovering its most recently launched Starship from the Indian Ocean.
Elon Musk's company is now in the process of shipping Starship back to its home base in Texas, a trip expected to take several months. ******* eX shared pictures of the recovery effort near Christmas Island late this week.
Starship — the biggest and most powerful rocket in the world — blasted off July 24 from Starbase, Texas. It was the 13th test flight of a full-up Starship, but unlike all the others, it survived the hourlong ******* e-skimming flight and remained floating and intact.
"Congratulations to the entire ******* eX Recovery team for battling through challenging conditions to give our engineers access to a wealth of data to continue rapidly developing Starship," the company said via X.
Starship is how Musk intends to get people and equipment to Mars, where he hopes to build a city. First up, though, is the moon. NASA is counting on Starship as well as Jeff Bezos' Blue Moon lander to return astronauts to the lunar surface as early as 2028.

The United States Postal Service (USPS) published a rule Friday that would require states to provide lists of voters who received mail-in ballots to the agency.
The USPS rule, first proposed on June 2, moves to align the agency with President Donald Trump's March 31 executive order, which, among other things, ordered the agency to mandate that all states that plan to use USPS to send mail-in ballots notify the agency at least 90 days before an election and to send USPS a list of eligible voters the state plans on providing a mail-in ballot to at least 60 days before the election.
"Any state that intends to receive mail-in or absentee ballots from individual voters through the Postal Service must ensure that such individuals have been enrolled with the Postal Service for inclusion on the state's Mail-In and Absentee Participation List," the new rule reads.
In order for an individual to be included on the list, their state must submit to the USPS the individual's name and address and include a "uniquely serialized Intelligent Mail barcode (IMb)" on both the outbound federal ballot and the return ballot sent to the individual.

A man is recovering from surgery after he was tossed into the air by a bison at Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming.
The unidentified man was seen walking with his grandson when the bison charged at him and threw him up into the air after he attempted to run away from the massive animal on Friday.
"A 65-year-old man was injured by a bison on the evening of July 10 at Bridge Bay Campground near Lake Yellowstone," park officials told ABC News in a statement. "Park emergency medical personnel responded and transported him to a nearby hospital."
Campers first noticed the lone bison amid the tents as it began to run around the campsite, and shouted to warn others.
Mike MacLeod, a local park photographer who witnessed the attack and captured it on video, told ABC News he "really didn't think [the bison] was going to pick those two people of all the people who were even way closer."

(NewsNation) — Indie distributor Neon will release "Artificial," a dramatized film about Sam Altman's brief ouster from OpenAI, after Amazon MGM Studios walked away from the project last month.
Amazon dropped the film June 19. The company has not publicly explained the decision beyond a statement to Variety saying it believed the movie "will be better served if it were released by a different studio." Neon finalized a deal for the film June 30, according to Variety.
According to Variety, "Artificial" portrays Altman as a pathological liar and Elon Musk as a villain. Podcast host Matthew Belloni, who said he read the script, told Esquire the film tackles sensitive issues within the tech industry and presents a bleak view of artificial intelligence's future.

"This is not a flattering portrait of Sam Altman. This is '[The] Social Network' kind of on steroids, because you add in not only these guys warping the culture, they could potentially end the world. And that's the message of this movie," Belloni said.
