SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) -- The two teams that have met in each of the last two 11A state championships open the year atop the preseason rankings.
Sioux Falls Christian is the reigning state champion and they were the only unanimous number one in the preseason polls, claiming all 20 first place votes. Lennox finished as the state runner-up and they sit in second. Dell Rapids, West Central and Madison close out the top five.
Sioux Falls Christian
Sioux Falls Christian completed an undefeated season last year on their way to a state ****** le. The Chargers return about 10 starters total between offense and defense. Christian had the best scoring defense in 11A last year, led by one of the best linebacker groups in the state, but four of them graduated and the fifth recently suffered a broken ankle.
"Losing five linebackers out of our 3-5 defense is tough to replace, but we've got a lot of guys that have put in a ton of time and a lot of work," SFC head coach Jared Smith said. "They're really good and we like our speed on both sides of the ball."
