The challenger is calling his shot.
Once-beaten welterweight contender Ian Garry doesn't want a flash knockout or any other sort of quick-fire victory at UFC 330 , because that opens the door for post-fight excuses, like "Islam Makhachev got caught." Instead, "The Future" wants to punish the former lightweight champion en route to a fourth-round finish.
That would make Garry the UFC welterweight champion and by his estimation, the top pound-for-pound fighter in the sport .
"My ideal scenario? I want a fourth-round finish," Machado Garry said on Instagram . "I don't want any early knockout because then there's ifs, buts, maybes. 'Ah, there's excuses.' I want four rounds of domination. And in that fourth round, I'm going to tell everybody: I'm going to do it now. And then I'm going to go in there and finish him. I'm going to open the door, I'm going to walk him into my traps, and I'm going to take his head clean off his shoulders."
Makhachev defends his welterweight strap in the UFC 330 main event on Aug. 15 at Xfinity Mobile Arena in Philadelphia.
