Liverpool and Richard Hughes are eager to move on from their mistake with Alexander Isak. A €100m bid is now in.
Liverpool broke their transfer record twice in 2025, first with Florian Wirtz and then again with Alexander Isak. The Isak deal was extra special, too, as it also broke the overall British transfer record.
However, the process of completing that deal has been an absolute disaster. It looked terrible at the time, of course, with Liverpool waiting all summer long before signing the Swede at the last minute - literally on deadline day.
They'd finally got their man, though, and that was okay. Surely?
No, as it turned out. The drawn out process left Isak on the sidelines at Newcastle United, essentially on strike as he tried to force through the move. He didn't have a pre-season and arrived at Liverpool woefully unprepared.
