While President Donald Trump has said that Americans should see $2,000 checks for the government in mid 2026, it might depend on Congress.
On Dec. 21, White House economic adviser Kevin Hassett said that tariff dividend checks will need congressional approval.
“Congress is going to have to send those money to those peoples," Hassett said on CBS News' "Face the Nation with Margaret Brennan.” "This would have to be money that would be an appropriation."
However, he voiced optimism over the plan.
