Bureau of Land Management Says Bison Are Not Livestock, Obstructing Plans for a Huge Private Prairie Reserve
An ambitious and privately funded project to create a 5,000-square-mile prairie reserve where buffalo may roam and antelope play in eastern Montana is being stymied by an obtuse new ruling by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM). The goal of the American Prairie nonprofit is to re-create a prairie ecosystem one-and-a-half times the size of Yellowstone National Park that can eventually support a free-ranging herd of 5,000 bison. Such a reserve would also greatly benefit other prairie s

Trump admin. terminates D.C. golf deal, leaving longtime operator 'devastated'
President Trump’s administration has terminated a lease agreement with the National Links Trust (NLT), the Washington, D.C., public-private nonprofit that has overseen and operated the District’s three municipal golf courses for the last half decade.
News of the lease termination, which was confirmed by The Hill on Wednesday, notifies the NLT that it is in breach of its contract with the National Park Service (NPS), which owns the land on which the three courses are built.
Signed in 2020, the agreement was made

Seniors have embraced Medicare Advantage plans for their free or deeply discounted perks such as eyeglasses, dental coverage, gym memberships, and reimbursements for — not joking — golf clubs and pickleball paddles.
While those plan perks are a pleasure to imagine using, many people never touch them.
“Medicare Advantage enrollees often don't know which supplemental benefits are offered by their plans or how to use them,” Gretchen Jacobson, vice president for Medicare at the Commonwealth Fund, a nonprofit research foundation, told Yahoo Finance.

Marc Buoniconti said his father, the late NFL Hall of Famer Nick Buoniconti, explained the secret to the success of their nonprofit and its fundraising efforts simply: “We’re just not good listeners.”
In the 40 years since Marc Buoniconti, then a college football linebacker at the Citadel, was paralyzed during a routine tackle, they have been told countless times that it was a problem that couldn’t be fixed. The Buonicontis didn’t listen.
Instead, through the fund that bears their name, they have helped raise more than $550 million for The Miami Project to Cure Paralysis, and improved the li

These are the Kansas City area’s most unsafe hospitals. See the ratings
When going to the hospital for a surgery or illness, you trust that the medical staff will treat your condition well. But if your nurses and doctors don’t wash their hands or give you the wrong medicine, your health could get worse, not better.
But some Kansas City- area hospitals are better at these patient safety steps than others.
Falls, infections after surgery, miscommunications with staff and other preventable safety issues kill more than 200,000 people each year, according to health care watchdog nonprofit The
