Photos of Shiite Muslims displaced from Syria living at a newly opened camp in Lebanon
HERMEL, Lebanon (AP) — Thousands of Shiite Muslims who fled Syria after former President Bashar ****** ad's government was toppled in an offensive by Sunni rebels in December 2024 have found a new home in Lebanon.

A 2,000 year old battery, or just a very interesting pot?
This is the debate that’s been swirling over the fragments of a puzzling artifact discovered in Iraq nearly a century ago. Dubbed the “Baghdad battery,” it’s believed to have originally been a clay jar housing a copper vessel, at the center of which was an iron rod. This arrangement, either by coincidence or design, could’ve allowed it to function as a primitive galvanic cell, some archaeologists argue — a primitive energy storage device pioneered in the Western world by Alessandro Volta, after whom the “volt” was named.

Farmers devastated as key crop becomes harder to grow: 'Cultivation is now under threat'
Once a reliable source of food and income, Iraq's fig trees are dying off due to relentless drought, leaving farmers struggling for their livelihood.
In Iraq's Babylon province, fig farmers are seeing sharp declines in yields due to drought, according to Jummar.
Just two years ago, a single tree could produce 25 to 40 crates of figs per season, with each crate weighing up to 20 kilograms. Today, a single tree produces just one 15- to 20-kilogram crate every two to three days — a steep drop in producti

Iran’s president says his country is in a full-scale war with the West

Farmers in the Balakayati region of northern Iraq say they're facing one of their worst apple harvests in years, according to 964media.
A combination of unusually cold weather and spring snowfall severely damaged orchards, slashing yields across the area.
"Because of cold, wind, and snow, this year's apple yield is very low," farmer Rashid Hassan said. "Last year I harvested 40 tons from my orchard, but this year I only got 15 tons — and I had the highest yield among other farmers."
Balakayati, known for its fertile soil and high-quality produce, typically produces around 2,000 tons of appl

The former Marine sniper accused of a mass shooting and the warning signs that came before
Marc Simmons hadn’t heard from his estranged friend in nearly seven years. Then, Nigel Max Edge showed up at his work and falsely accused Simmons of stealing his identity.
They met taking community college classes and bonded over their time with the Marines in Iraq. Simmons’ kids once called Edge “Uncle Sean” — back when his name was still Sean William DeBevoise.
Simmons was now terrified his old friend would retaliate against him, he told a judge.
“The defendant, Nigel Edge, is mentally unstable,”
