The raging debate in Washington D.C. over the rising cost of living was front and center at the Potrero Power Station on Friday as California U.S. Sen. Adam Schiff used an affordable housing complex there as the backdrop to announce legislation that he said would bring a housing construction boom similar to the one seen after World War II.
The 48-page legislation - a long-shot because it will need Republican support in order to pass - is called the Housing BOOM (Building Occupancy Opportunity for Millions) Act. It proposes a massive expansion of the 9% federal low-income housing tax credits u

Egypt found itself back on the international front pages in the second half of this year. The country played host to the Sharm el-Sheikh conference in October when US President Donald Trump rallied global and regional powers alike behind his ceasefire plan for the Gaza Strip. Shortly after, in November, Cairo invited world leaders to attend the spectacular opening of the new Grand Egyptian Museum next to the pyramids.
Amid these eye-catching events, other domestic developments have received less attention. Most notable were Egypt’s parliamentary elections, with the first round held in Novembe

A 'K-shaped' economy is emerging: What that could mean for 2026
A growing chorus on Wall Street is warning that the US economy is becoming increasingly K-shaped, with higher-income households powering spending while lower-income consumers struggle with affordability. It mirrors what investors have seen in the stock market, where Big Tech continues to drive the major indexes even as other sectors lag behind.

A new study is flipping the script on how we think about renewable energy, and it is revealing a surprising flaw in the way a major industry is funded.
UK researchers Colm O'Shea, Piers Horne, and Mark Maslin found that wind power has delivered more than $132.4 billion in total savings for consumers since 2010. Besides the work wind power has done to clean up the UK's electricity grid, this is also a major win for families and the economy.
Plus, it is a reminder that clean energy is more than just an environmental upgrade.

How is Brexit affecting UK-EU economic relations under Starmer?
Why did UK reject EU defense fund negotiations?
Keir Starmer faces a major voter backlash after insisting Britain must keep moving towards closer ties with the EU. The Prime Minister reignited old grievances as he again tried to pin the blame on Brexit for the country’s lacklustre economic performance since Labour came to power.

Lasers are everywhere. Whether for barcode scanners, hair removal treatments or fiber-optic internet connections, these beams of light power our everyday lives. Their history dates back to Einstein’s theories in the 1910s and experiments funded by the U.S. government in the 1950s. It took decades for lasers to go from theory to research prototypes to ubiquitous technology.

The 2025 Atlantic hurricane season proved to be consequential, even though no hurricanes made landfall in the U.S for the first time since 2015.
Three Category 5 hurricanes formed during this past hurricane season, tying for the second-most on record in the Atlantic basin. The only other season that saw more Category 5 storms was in 2005, when there were four Category 5 storms.

For some, it’s turkey season.
For others, it's eggnog season.
For President Trump, it’s starting to look a lot like lame-duck season.
He’s got less than a year before power in Congress is likely to change hands, putting a much-needed damper on his reign of terror against American institutions, immigrants, science and medicine, political enemies and free speech.

The boom in metal-intensive technologies like data centers and electric vehicles has made it a prime time to be in the US aluminum business.
Prices are booming. Part of that is because inside every data center are cooling units, server racks, radiators, and a litany of other pieces and parts made out of aluminum.
No wonder demand is high.
