Roger Clemens is not in the National Baseball Hall of Fame but he will receive the Presidential Medal of Freedom, President Donald Trump announced Wednesday.
Clemens introduced Trump at a rally in San Antonio on Wednesday, with Trump dropping the announcement as the former pitcher stood nearby. During the announcement, Trump said he had played golf with Clemens earlier this year, which prompted him to call MLB commissioner Rob Manfred about his Hall of Fame case:
"We had a great time, he's an amazing guy. I said, 'I'm going to call the commissioner of baseball.' It's a ridiculous thing that you're not in the Hall of Fame with that kind of record. He won seven Cy Youngs!"
It's worth noting the MLB commissioner has no power over who gets into the Hall of Fame. That is determined first by voters from the Baseball Writers ******* ociation of America (BBWAA), then a committee of voters determined by the Hall of Fame itself.
Trump did successfully intervene on the part of the late Pete Rose last year, pushing Manfred to remove the league's all-time hits leader from the ineligible list. Clemens is not on that list, nor will Rose reach the Hall of Fame without a successful vote.

LAS VEGAS (AP) — The yearslong case against six Nevada Republicans who were accused of submitting a bogus certificate that falsely declared Donald Trump the winner of the state's 2020 presidential election has been dismissed, a judge ruled Thursday.
The dismissal marks the latest setback in swing states' efforts to prosecute fake electors who tried to keep Trump in the White House after he lost to Joe Biden in 2020.
Three other fake elector cases in Arizona, Michigan and Georgia have been dismissed. Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes recently dismissed her office's criminal case but vowed to bring it back to a grand jury in hopes of securing another indictment. The dismissal was a legal maneuver aimed at getting around a deadline for starting new grand jury proceedings after Mayes lost an appeal earlier in June.
Nevada Attorney General Aaron Ford, who is also running for governor as a Democrat, brought charges relating to forgery and "offering a false instrument for filing or record" against the six Nevada Republicans, who pleaded not guilty.
His office plans to appeal the ruling.

A mother has described how a family day out at a country park ended in a "terrifying" road rage attack which left her children in tears.
The Liverpool family had just left an American classic car show at Tatton Park in Knutsford, Cheshire, when a man confronted her after she did not pull over to let him drive past.
Dashcam footage of the incident, at 15:00 BST on Saturday, shows him braking in front of the family's car before climbing out of his van. He can then be heard swearing, before he rips the car door handle off.
Portable toilet firm Instant Loos and Event Hire has apologised and said its subcontractor would no longer work for them. Cheshire Police said it was investigating the incident.
The mother, Olivia, was in the car with her two six-month-old babies and a 13-year-old.
